Plug In! is the first non-for-profit organization of its kind to bring consumers and health information technology together. It is comprised of consumers, educators, clinicians, informaticists, business leaders and employers who all share the vision of educating and enabling consumers to improve and better manage their health care. This will be accomplished through the dedication, hard work and the investment of organizations that believe the consumer has the power to change health care for the better.
The overall goal of Plug In! is to inspire and motivate consumers to take charge of their health and wellness through health care information technologies. As consumer awareness grows and develops, it will help to improve health care beyond the individual and the family and reach into our communities and society as a whole.
Consumer enablement begins with consumer awareness. This organization is in the process of developing several initiatives such as health care IT educational programs and demonstration projects. These projects will show how health care IT benefits underserved populations, address privacy and security concerns, and will raise overall awareness of the power of health care IT among consumers.
Together consumers and Plug In! can and will make a difference.
